At PersonDesk, privacy and anonymity are the foundation of our service. This policy explains what we collect and how we protect it when you visit PersonDesk, post in community spaces, or chat with a listener. It works together with our Terms of Use.
Peer-Support & Digital Wellness Disclaimer
PersonDesk is an anonymous peer-support platform. It is not a licensed medical, psychiatric, or crisis service.
- Nothing on PersonDesk, including conversations with listeners, Hot Takes, community posts, stories, journal prompts, or wellness games, is medical, psychiatric, psychological, or clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- Using PersonDesk does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client, or any other professional care relationship between you and PersonDesk, its listeners, or other users.
- PersonDesk cannot dispatch emergency services or guarantee that anyone will respond in an emergency. The Trusted Contact feature only sends a message to a person you chose; it does not alert emergency services.
- PersonDesk is not a substitute for professional care. Never ignore professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you read or heard on PersonDesk.
- If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, call your local emergency number (112 in Nigeria, or 767 in Lagos) or go to the nearest hospital now.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
- No real identity required: You never need to give your legal name, home address, or phone number to chat, read stories, or drop a Hot Take.
- No advertising profiles: We do not build advertising or behavioral profiles from your chat topics or emotional disclosures.
2. Information We Process
- Anonymous sessions: When you post or vote without an account, we create an anonymous session ID so we can count your vote once and limit spam. Hot Takes posted this way are shown publicly as "Anonymous".
- Email address (optional): You can add an email to see reactions and replies on Hot Takes, or to post in community spaces. Your email is never shown to other users. It is linked to your account and visible to our moderation team only when needed for safety.
- Chat messages: Messages in peer sessions are sent securely and kept confidential between you and the assigned listener team.
- Posts and media: Hot Takes, community posts, stories, replies, and any photos or videos you attach are published on the platform and may be reviewed or removed by moderators. Do not include identifying details in public posts.
- Trusted Contacts: If you add a Trusted Contact, we store the name you give them and their email address in encrypted form, only to send the messages you ask us to send.
- Basic system logs: Our hosting infrastructure records minimal technical data (such as IP headers and browser type) for security, maintenance, and abuse prevention.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We use essential cookies and local storage to keep your session signed in, remember settings such as dark mode, and record that you accepted our Terms and Privacy Policy. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. See our Cookie & Storage Policy.
4. Data Protection & Confidentiality
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information or conversations to third parties or advertisers.
- Access to account data is restricted to the minimum our team needs to run and moderate the platform.
- In rare cases involving platform abuse, illegal activity, or a risk of imminent harm, we may process the minimum data needed to protect our community, or where the law requires it.
5. Third-Party Services
PersonDesk runs on trusted infrastructure providers that process data only to deliver the service:
- Vercel: website hosting and privacy-friendly, cookie-free page analytics.
- Supabase: database, sign-in, and media storage.
- Email delivery provider: sending sign-in, password reset, and Trusted Contact emails.
6. Your Choices
- You can use most of PersonDesk without ever giving us an email.
- You can remove your Trusted Contacts at any time from your settings.
- You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser at any time. You will be asked to accept our terms again on your next visit.
