Our privacy promise
This is not legal text. This is us telling you, in plain English, what we do with your information.
Chat-only users
If you just want to chat, you don't need to give us your email. You type a name, and that's it.
We store your conversations so you can come back to them, but we don't know who you are beyond the name you chose.
Community members
If you want to post in Hot Takes, comment, or join the full community, we ask for your email.
Your email is visible to the moderation team only. It's never shown to other users, never posted publicly, and never sold.
We use your email to send you account notifications (like password resets) and to verify you're a real person.
Who can read what
Your listeners
The person you're chatting with can read your messages. That's the whole point. They're trained volunteers who care about listening.
Super admin
The platform owner (that's us) can technically access all data. We don't read your chats unless there's a safety concern (see below).
Moderation team
If someone reports a message or if our system flags something concerning, the moderation team may review that specific conversation for safety reasons.
Private chats and safety
Your 1-on-1 chats are private. We don't read them for fun, for analytics, or for any other reason.
But if someone mentions self-harm, abuse, or other serious safety concerns, our system may flag it. The moderation team will review that conversation to make sure the person is safe and connected to professional help.
This is not about spying. This is about making sure nobody slips through the cracks.
Employers never see your data
If your company uses PersonDesk for employee support, they never see your identity or your messages.
Employers can see aggregate stats (like "50 conversations happened this month") but never who said what. Your privacy is non-negotiable.
Letters to Future Me
Letters you write to your future self are encrypted and stored securely. Only you can read them when they arrive.
We can't read them, your listeners can't read them, and nobody else can either. They're yours.
Trusted contacts
If you choose a trusted contact, we store their name, how you know them, the name they'll see you as, the message you wrote for them, and their email address. The email address is encrypted, and listeners and admins cannot see any of it.
Nothing is ever sent unless you tap “I need someone” and confirm. Our safety checks, listeners, and admins cannot send it for you. The email only contains the message you approved, never your chats or journal.
We keep a short log of when a message was sent, without its contents, so we can enforce sending limits.
Removing your trusted contact, or deleting your account, deletes their details straight away. Your contact can say no, or ask never to be contacted by PersonDesk again, at any time.
How to delete your account
Want to leave? You can delete your account at any time.
Go to your account settings and click "Delete account." This removes your profile, your conversations, and everything associated with you.
If you can't find the button, email us and we'll do it for you.
When we share information
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't give it to random third parties.
The only time we share information with outside parties is when the law requires it. If we get a valid legal request (like a court order), we have to comply. But we'll fight unreasonable requests, and we'll tell you if we can.
Questions?
If you're unsure about anything, ask us. We'll answer in plain English, not legalese.
